Blocking-Out Shooter DrillFive offensive shooters and five defensive players, but only one ball is used in this drill. All other potential shooters without the ball go through the motions of shooting in unison with the actual shooter. The actual shooter should attempt to make his shot, but with a hand in his face.
The shooters, without faking, try to follow their shot for the rebound. The defenders block out their men using a reverse pivot, then moving to their assigned area for the rebound. In explaining how to execute the reverse pivot, tell them to pivot in a manner that their body is moving toward the opponent's basket. If the ball bounds into their area, they should grab it. All players rotate clockwise after every shot, with the same shooter taking his shot from a different position on the court. After completing the circuit, a different shooter starts with the ball and continues until each offensive player has completed his circuit. Every player gets five shots, all from the different areas on the court. The main idea of this drill is to teach the fundamentals of blocking-out and then covering the proper area for a long rebound. |
